O is for Orewa

Orewa is located at the lower end of that long arm, Whangaparaoa Peninsula, that stretches north from the main body of the North Island of New Zealand. This is the furthest north we have travelled in the country so far in this haiku wandering.

Less than an hour north of Auckland, Orewa’s three kilometre beach is a holiday haven on the Hibiscus Coast. My husband and I would occasionally take the leisurely drive north from Auckland to enjoy lunch at one of the winery restaurants to the west of the town.  If you enjoy cycling, surfing or swimming, this is the spot for you.

And now the haiku:

Orewa

The Hibiscus Coast
and Orewa’s long beaches
draw Aucklanders north.
